Pop Eye
What
is Pop Eye?
Pop Eye itself is not a disease but a symptom of an underlying
problem. Fluids build up either behind the eye or in the eye itself.
What
causes Pop Eye?
The most common cause is an injury to one or both eyes (normally
just one in trauma cases).
This condition can be caused by fighting, sharp objects, a
bacterial infection or as a result of poor water quality conditions.
How
to treat Pop Eye:
- Check your water conditions. Chemistry and water temperature.
- Complete a 30% to 50% water change.
- Remove any underlying cause such as sharp objects or bully’s in
the tank.
- Separate the affected fish if possible or treat the entire tank.
- Remove the damaged fish to a quarantine tank until healed.
- Feed a high-quality food and a vitamin supplement such as
Nourish.
- Treat with an anti-bacterial agent such as Furan 2 or Melafix.
- Treat for the recommended amount of time even if you feel the
infection has passed and after the treatment, another 50% water change must be
made to help clear the medicine.
